Where do I find my game server?+
Open Servers from the dashboard and select the server you want to manage. Overview shows live resources and console. The Activity tab lists recent starts, stops and backups.
What should I do after buying a server?+
Wait for setup to finish, then open the server Overview. Accept the Minecraft EULA if prompted, copy your join address from the soft tip card, then start the server. Backups are optional until you change plugins, worlds or software.
Can I leave the page while my server is being created?+
Yes. Server setup continues automatically. You can return later from the Servers page.
Can I get Discord or webhook alerts for my server?+
Yes. Open the server Settings tab and choose Webhooks. Paste a Discord webhook URL or another HTTPS URL, pick the events you want, then save. Deliveries run in the background so they cannot slow a start, stop or backup.
How do I start, stop or restart my server?+
Use the power controls at the top of the server page. Start turns an offline server on, Stop requests a normal shutdown, and Restart performs a controlled restart.
When should I use Force stop?+
Use Force stop only when a normal Stop does not complete. It immediately ends the running process and may increase the chance of unsaved data being lost.
Why is my server showing offline?+
An offline server may simply be stopped, may still be installing, or may have exited because of a game or configuration error. Check the console helper tip above the live console, then read the most recent error lines before restarting.
Why does my server keep restarting or stopping?+
Use Copy last errors on the Overview console helper, then check for out-of-memory, missing jar, wrong Java, plugin crashes or world load failures. Include that snapshot and your server short ID when contacting support.
What does an out-of-memory crash mean?+
The Java process ran out of RAM. Lower view-distance and simulation-distance in server.properties, remove heavy plugins or mods, or upgrade server memory from the upgrade panel.
What does “Failed to bind” or “Address already in use” mean?+
Another process or plugin is using the same port. Check Network settings and disable recently added plugins that open extra ports, then start again.
What if the server jar is missing?+
Startup cannot find the main jar. Restore a backup if you have one, or reinstall from Settings → Danger zone. Make a backup first if the world still matters.
What does UnsupportedClassVersionError mean?+
The software needs a newer Java runtime than the one currently selected. Open Settings and change the Java version, then start the server again.
A plugin failed while enabling — what do I do?+
Note the plugin name from the console helper, disable or remove that jar from Files → plugins (or the Plugins tab), then start again. Update the plugin if a newer build exists for your game version.
The world failed to load. Is it safe to keep restarting?+
No. Repeated starts can make world damage worse. Restore a backup first, then investigate. If you have no backup, open a support ticket with your server ID and the console errors.
Why do I need to accept the Minecraft EULA?+
Mojang requires every Minecraft server operator to accept the Minecraft End User License Agreement before the server can run. Accept it once from the banner or modal on your server page.
What do CPU, memory and storage usage mean?+
CPU shows processor usage, memory shows how much RAM the server is currently using, and storage shows disk space used by game files, worlds, logs, mods and backups.
Can I change my server name?+
Yes. Open the server Settings tab, choose General, and update the server identity options available for your service.
How do I change my game version?+
If your server template supports customer-selectable versions, open Settings → General and use the game version control shown there. Some version changes may require a restart or reinstall.
How do I reinstall a server?+
Open Settings → Danger zone. Reinstall is intentionally separated from normal settings because it can replace game files. Make a backup first if you need to keep existing data.
Can I change to a different game template?+
Yes, if another template fits the RAM, CPU and disk you already pay for. Open Settings → Danger zone → Change template. Your plan, renewal date, RAM, CPU and disk stay the same. The server is reinstalled with the new game files, so make a backup first.
How do I change Paper, Forge or other server software?+
Open Settings → General → Server software. You can switch to any software type included with this plan. Changing software creates a backup first, then reinstalls the server and replaces game files.
How do I give someone else access to my server?+
Open Settings → Users. Invite a verified PylonHosting account and pick a role. They never get billing, SFTP, reinstall, or the ability to manage other users.
How do I install a Minecraft modpack?+
On Minecraft servers, open the Modpacks tab. Search Modrinth or CurseForge, pick a version, then type SWITCH to confirm. Pylon stops the server, saves a backup, deletes the old files and folders, then installs the pack onto a clean server. You will see live progress while that runs.
Where is my server address?+
Open the server Overview or Network tab. Use the public Game address shown there rather than any internal service details. The first time a join address is ready, a small tip card helps you copy it without blocking the page.
Why can’t I connect to my server?+
Confirm the server is running, copy the Game address exactly, and check whether the game requires a specific client version. If the address says it needs attention, use the retry option and check the Server messages area.
Do I need to type a port for Minecraft?+
When your Minecraft server has a hostname configured for the standard connection method, use the Game address shown on the dashboard. If a port is required, it is included in that address.
What are Additional ports for?+
Additional ports are useful for plugins, voice chat, query services, web maps, remote administration tools and game features that need another connection port. Open Network → Additional ports to request one.
Can I choose any additional port number I want?+
No. The dashboard assigns a safe available port so it cannot conflict with another service. Configure your plugin or game feature to use the port shown there.
Can I create another custom game address?+
If custom addresses are enabled for your service, open Network → Addresses. Availability and limits depend on your server plan and the domains offered by PylonHosting.
How do I edit a configuration file?+
Open Files, select a supported text or configuration file, make your changes in the built-in editor and save. Restart the server if the game requires it for changes to apply.
How do I upload mods or plugins?+
On Minecraft servers, open Plugins & mods to search Modrinth and install in one click. You can also open Files and upload jars into the folder the mod or plugin docs specify. Always use versions compatible with your server software and game version.
Can I use SFTP?+
Yes. Open Settings → Connection to view the SFTP details available for your server. Keep those credentials private.
How do I create a backup?+
Open the Backups tab and create a backup before risky changes such as major updates, mod changes or reinstalls. Wait for the backup to finish before relying on it.
How do I restore a backup?+
Open Backups, choose the backup you want and use the restore action. Restoring replaces current server data with the contents of that backup, so confirm you selected the correct one.
Why is my backup taking a long time?+
Large worlds, many files and active disk usage can increase backup time. Avoid repeatedly starting another backup while one is already being created.
Can you take money off my next bill?+
Yes. If support adds a goodwill credit when they close a ticket, you can take it as wallet funds or as money off your next server renewal when they let you choose. If they apply it to the next bill themselves, it comes off automatically. Leftover bill credit stays for the bill after that. Wallet funds are separate and can also be spent on new servers.
Where can I see when my server renews?+
Open Server billing. Each active subscription shows its renewal amount, renewal date and current renewal method. Paid orders also have a PDF invoice under Billing → Invoices.
What happens if a renewal payment fails?+
The affected subscription will show that a new payment method is needed. Set up Stripe, PayPal, or wallet auto-renew by the date on Server billing to avoid service suspension or eventual deletion under the applicable retention policy.
Can I change my automatic renewal method?+
Yes. Open Server billing and choose an available renewal method for the server. Only one recurring method should be active at a time.
How do I cancel my server plan?+
Open Server billing and choose Cancel plan on the server. Billing stops and the server stays active until the paid date, then it is removed. You can keep the plan again before that date if you change your mind.
Where can I see old subscriptions?+
Open Server billing and select History. Closed, cancelled or deleted subscription records are kept separate from your active servers.
How do I go from billing to the server?+
Active subscriptions include a Go to server button that opens the matching server directly.
What can wallet credit be used for?+
Wallet credit can be used for eligible purchases and optional wallet-based server renewals where that option is enabled. If support offers a ticket credit and you choose wallet, it is added here as spendable funds.
Where can I see wallet transactions?+
Open Wallet and scroll to Wallet transactions. Transactions are split into pages so older activity remains easy to browse.
How do I add money to my wallet?+
Open Wallet, enter an allowed top-up amount and choose an available payment method. Your balance updates after the payment is confirmed.
Can wallet credit expire?+
Any expiry or promotional conditions depend on the specific credit or offer. Check the promotion terms shown when the credit is issued.
How do I reset my password?+
Open Profile → Security and choose Send password reset link. A short-lived recovery link will be sent if your account uses password sign-in.
How do I manage connected sign-in accounts?+
Open Profile → Connected accounts to review the sign-in providers attached to your account.
How do I keep my account secure?+
Use a unique password, protect your email account, keep authentication codes private, sign out on shared devices and enable any additional security options available to your account.
What information should I never send to support?+
Never send your password, password-reset link, payment card details, authentication codes or other private credentials. Support can investigate normal issues without those secrets.
How do I open a support ticket?+
Open Support tickets from the dashboard. Tickets stay on your signed-in account. Include the server short ID and the exact error when you can, and never include passwords or card details. If support offers a goodwill credit, choose wallet or next-bill credit on that ticket.
